about

'Dig' tells stories of women and children living on the raw edges of conflict around the world. Places such as Liberia, Palestine, the DRC, South Sudan…. and testimonies of women rising up against structures and authorities that deny them their basic freedoms and dignity. It’s an album about the tenacity of the human spirit and women’s indomitable courage in the face of violence.

‘Dig’ was the making of me as a songwriter- I learned to write thematically, to research and to ground ideas in concrete, specific contexts.

I am ever thankful for the time spent working on the album with Steve Pilgrim, Michael Oates and Jamie Brewster. They brought the perfect mix of careful thought and visceral abandonment to the work, mostly recorded live at Elevator Studios in Liverpool. Special mention to Darren Jones who mixed the album virtually for free as I was so skint and to my parents, who I think were just about getting used to the idea of me becoming an artist :) and very helpfully paid for the recording.

The utterly glorious artwork is an original piece by Jon Barraclough.

“I am bent towards the wreckage of a diamond studded landscape/ all those glittering promises slipping through my fingers/ they’ve ploughed our backs and scattered our bones.”
